About Susan Eisenhower

Susan Eisenhower is a well-known policy strategist focused on national security, strategic issues, and leadership development. 

Ms. Eisenhower has authored hundreds of op-eds for newspapers such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times and has appeared on all major media programs. Her most recent of five books, , How Ike Led: The Principles Behind Eisenhower’s Biggest Decisions, has received critical acclaim nationally and internationally. 

Ms. Eisenhower is co-founder and chairman emeritus of The Eisenhower Institute where she served as president twice. In 2009, The Eisenhower Institute merged with Gettysburg College where for 15 years she led a year-long seminar on strategy and leadership. She has been a fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics; a distinguished fellow at the Nixon Center (now called the Center for National Interest) and has served as an academic advisor to the Carnegie Corporation of New York. In addition, she has been a member of the advisory board of Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies and has served as a trustee of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Gettysburg College, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Johns Hopkins’ American Institute for Contemporary German Studies. She also serves on the advisory board of MIT’s Energy Initiative.

She was a member of three blue ribbon commissions on nuclear energy for the Department of Energy and is the former co-chairman of NEAC, the Secretary of Energy’s nuclear energy advisory board. In 1998 Ms. Eisenhower was appointed to the National Academy of Sciences’ Standing Committee on International Security and Arms Control, where she served for eight years. After as many years on the NASA Advisory Council, she became a member of the International Space Station Management and Cost Evaluation Task Force. 

In 1986, Ms. Eisenhower founded The Eisenhower Group, Inc., a Washington, DC, based consulting company. For decades EGI has provided strategic counsel on business development, public affairs, and communications projects to Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies.  Through EGI she also served as an international advisor to the Albright/Stonebridge Group, founded by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.  With EGI she continues to provide executive training on strategic leadership. 

Today, Ms. Eisenhower serves on several charitable boards. She has received many awards over the years, including an honorary degree from the Army War College at Carlisle, the Department of Energy’s Distinguished Service Award and the Légion d’Honneur, France’s highest award for military and civilian merit.
